Winter and Long Rounds
Staying warm
Cover exposed body parts and wear a coat over ordinary clothing. Overlapping layers add insulation, while shorts and loincloths protect only the parts they cover. Ordinary clothing's cold rating is 240 K, about -33 C; it stops insulating below that temperature. Choose suitable cold-weather equipment for extreme climates.
Rain and immersion make you wet, weakening clothing insulation and increasing cooling. Move into dry shelter to avoid further soaking. A nearby lit brazier, campfire, iron furnace or fireplace provides warmth. Warmth dries you faster and helps recovery from hypothermia; shelter alone can still be cold.
Complete coverage buys time but does not make you immune to cold. A dangerously cold body takes harm even when fully covered. Seek warmth before exposure becomes severe, and account for other injuries and hunger.
Daylight and weather transitions
Day/night lighting and outdoor weather appearances update progressively across ticks to reduce interruptions. A visible transition may take longer to finish. If another update arrives during a transition, the latest pending request replaces the older target.
Indoor and map-level lighting exclusions, climate and seasonal weather rules, radiation appearances, and Wasteland Night/Morning effects still apply. These appearance updates do not change season lengths or advance debris age.
Abandoned debris
Discarded rubbish and empty, unrecoverable spent casings become eligible to decay after 4 actual season changes on maps with changing seasons. Examine them after 2 changes to see the warning. Maps without an active seasonal cycle instead warn after 6 hours and allow decay after 12 hours of running-server time. Decay processing can take additional time after the threshold.
Pick up or move eligible debris for a fresh recovery window. Native bags, backpacks, ammunition storage and closed closets or crates preserve contents. Open closets dump their contents onto the ground; dumpsters dispose of contents. Restored items receive a fresh window after loading.
This process covers rubbish and qualifying spent casings. Useful tools, component tools, crops, corpses, containers, vehicles, money, loaded ammunition and recoverable arrows or bolts do not decay through this system.
Human bodies use a separate corpse and remains process, with recovery warnings, protected storage and gear preservation.
Natural season transitions age debris. An admin's forced season change defaults to Keep decay age; Advance decay age explicitly counts that change, while Cancel makes no change.
