Exercise & Training
Your strength, dexterity and stamina skills normally grow slowly as you work, fight and travel. Training equipment lets you train them on purpose, in short sets with rest in between. See Character & Skills for what each skill does.
Equipment
All four pieces are built from the sports section of the crafting menu. They need enough crafting skill and the matching research, and the gym equipment is only available in the Modern era.
| Equipment | Material | Trains | Training limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stone lifting weights | 8 stone | Strength | 1.25 |
| Agility and endurance course marker | 6 wood | Dexterity and stamina | 1.25 |
| Gym lifting weights | 12 iron | Strength | 1.5 |
| Gym circuit marker | 8 iron | Dexterity and stamina | 1.5 |
Limits are in the same units as your Stats panel, before mood bonuses. The gym equipment trains a little faster and to a higher limit than the stone and wood versions. Once a skill reaches the equipment's limit, that equipment can no longer train it.
Lifting weights
- Stand next to the weights with an empty active hand.
- Click the weights to start a repetition. Stay still for 15 seconds.
- Click again for the second and third repetitions.
A set is three repetitions. Moving, being interrupted or switching to other equipment cancels the set, and an unfinished set gives no training.
Running a course
The course marker sets out a three-tile square to its northeast.
- Stand on the marker with an empty active hand and click it. The game tells you which tile to walk to.
- Walk to that corner and use Exercise Step from the IC tab. Stay still for about 11 seconds.
- Repeat at each corner, going three tiles east, three north, three west and back to the start.
A set is four corners. You need room for the whole square around the marker.
Fatigue and rest
- Each completed set adds 2 fatigue, up to a maximum of 6. At 6 you are too tired to train.
- One fatigue point recovers per minute.
- The more fatigued you are, the less each set teaches you. Gains are also halved once a skill reaches 1.0.
- You must be conscious, standing and able to use your hands, and a skill below 0.1 is too low to train.
- Use Stop Exercise in the IC tab to abandon a set. An abandoned set earns nothing.
A good routine is one set, a short break while you do something else, then another set.
