Mission and Community Standards
Our mission
Civ13 brings people together to build civilizations, explore historical settings, and create stories through crafting, cooperation, diplomacy, and conflict.
Our mission is to make that experience deep, creative, and welcoming. New players should be able to ask questions, experienced players should have reasons to share what they know, and contributors should be able to improve the project without accepting personal abuse.
Civ13 builds on Space Station 13's technical and creative foundations. We take responsibility for the culture we build around them. Harassment, discrimination, and humiliating people for entertainment should never become requirements for belonging.
Historical settings can involve violence, injustice, and difficult subjects. Players still deserve respect. Playing an enemy, rival, or oppressive character carries a responsibility to preserve that boundary.
We want a community that values curiosity, fair competition, constructive disagreement, and helping others participate. These expectations apply to players, contributors, and staff.
Putting the mission into practice
- Help people learn. Welcome questions, explain unfamiliar mechanics, and correct mistakes without ridicule. Distinguish inexperience from deliberate disruption.
- Respect personal boundaries. Stop unwanted personal targeting when asked. A joke, character background, or community tradition does not excuse harassment.
- Keep conflict within the rules. Roleplay and competition can include rivalry, defeat, and loss. They must still respect the people participating and the scenario's rules.
- Make room for disagreement. Critique ideas, decisions, and contributions constructively. Good-faith criticism and reports must not lead to retaliation.
- Hold everyone accountable. Community standing, friendships, donations, and contributions do not grant exemptions. Staff must explain decisions and arrange independent review of complaints about their own conduct.
- Respond to behavior fairly. Give people room to learn from mistakes and correction. Address repeated patterns of harassment with consequences, including removal when necessary.
The server rules define prohibited conduct and the boundaries for historical roleplay. They also explain how to report a problem or appeal a decision.
